On September 16, an international standard jointly led by Hefei CAS Ion Medical and Technical Devices Co., Ltd. (CIM) and the Institute of Plasma Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ASIPP) — ISO 24427:2025 Radiological protection — Medical proton accelerators — Requirements and recommendations for shielding design and evaluation — was officially released.

The publication of this standard fills a critical gap in the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) framework concerning radiation protection for proton therapy equipment. It highlights the strong technical capabilities of Chinese enterprises, represented by CIM, in the field of proton accelerator radiation safety, and significantly enhances China’s participation and influence in the formulation of international standards.

This milestone marks a new chapter for China’s contribution to global standardization efforts in advanced radiotherapy technologies.
